West Bengal

USE has signed an MOU with the Government of West Bengal in October 2008 for setting up 10,000MW thermal power plants at various locations in the state of West Bengal.
 
The first utility coal based thermal power plant with ultimate capacity of 3x660 MW is coming up in the Nayachar Island to feed power to the Eco Industrial Park and to the state grid as well. The first phase is planned to consist of 2x660 MW Supercritical units. The specific site for the power plant within the island has already been identified and all preliminary exploratory work has commenced including the Detailed Project Report (DPR) which is expected to be completed by March 2010. Site activities are expected to commence by mid 2010 and the first unit is planned to be commissioned by the year 2014. Coal for the power plants planned shall be imported from the Group owned captive mines in Indonesia.
 
Gujarat

In line with the MOU signed with the Government of Gujarat during the Vibrant Gujarat Investor Summit held in January 2009, USE plans to set up 10,000MW Thermal Power Plants in phases in the State of Gujarat.
 
The first coal based thermal power plant with ultimate capacity of 4000 MW is coming up adjacent to the Port site in Bhatvadia village in the district of Jamnagar and preliminary site specific investigative work has already commenced. The first phase of this project shall consist of two supercritical units of 660 MW each. With various clearances already in processing stages, the first unit is planned to be commissioned by the year 2014. The plant shall be having state-of-the-art technology for power generation and shall have various environment friendly features.

Coal for the power plants planned shall be imported from the Group owned captive mines in Indonesia. The group shall be investing about INR 18,000 crores in the first phase of development for Power and Port in the states of West Bengal and Gujarat.
