Environmentally sustainable Tourism

The USE Group will be developing 7,200 acres of the island for an environmentally sustainable tourism project over 7,200 acres of land. The land lies within the Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ). The tourism project will focus on developing Nayachar as a prime eco-tourism destination within India. The main features of the project will be :

a. A Fishing Village for the fishermen who use Nayachar Island - this will provide clean, hygienic and sustainable living conditions for the rehabilitation of the fishermen's families and will include housing, fishing ponds and community facilities, and offer fishing, angling and boating facilities to visitors to the island.

b. Educational tourism including nature camps for children, a Botanical Park, floriculture, pisciculture, creek tourism and a theme park
c. Adventure tourism activities such as coastal and offshore rowing, ocean rafting, all terrain vehicles and horse riding

d. Bangla Haat - a showcase of West Bengal's culinary and cultural heritage through various handicrafts and other artifacts

The focus of the Tourism Park will be to ensure preservation and enhancement of the Island's ecological sustainability, and conformity to the CRZ regulations.
